Crail, Summer 2024 by Shona Lynch
At the harbour is where I feel at peace. The juxtaposition of the neutral colours of worn ropes and the luminosity of the plastic buoys encourages me to explore proportions of colour and texture within my mixed-media artworks. Working through the process of creating, I am taken back to the harbour - of the stories the boats, ropes, lobster cages and anchors hold safe from their travels out at sea. I hope to capture that safety, that sense of anchorage at home.

Materials:
"Ink, pen, coloured pencil, treated papers, acrylic, hand-printed fabric, and thread – every element chosen to tell a story."
Process:
"Shona begins with rollered ink to map out the harbour’s composition, exploring how rips and tears can evoke textures missed by a photograph. Hand-printed fabrics exaggerate the colours of the scene, while embroidery anchors the details, paying tribute to the boats and their stories of rest and refuge."
